Sarah Thought It Would Be Easier to Let Go of the Yard Work
Meet Sarah, 68 years old. She wanted to stay independent in her home and she definitely wasn’t going to let yard work get in the way of that. Unfortunately, she was about to discover not every “professional” cares as much about upkeep of her home as she does.
WHEN YOU JUST CAN’T DO IT YOURSELF ANYMORE
“I live alone. My knees are shot. I just can’t keep living in this house without help taking care of the property.
“When I called the mower I told him I did not want him to use weed killer. Other people do and that’s fine for them, but weed whacking is good enough for me. I don’t mind the dandelions. I just wanted a good cut with a sharp blade, not too short, because I don’t need my lawn to look like a putting green.
IT SOUNDED GOOD AT FIRST
“I’ll tell you that man said not to worry, that he’d take good care of me, that I reminded him of his own mother and he wouldn’t let me down. Seemed like he wanted a sale pretty bad. I almost felt sorry for him, and that’s no reason to hire somebody.
HAD HE HEARD A WORD SHE SAID?
“He knew I was going to be gone visiting my niece’s family. I think that’s why he thought he could just do everything his way without regard for my wishes. When I came home I discovered he’d done just about the opposite of everything I told him!
“He’d cut the grass so short he’d dug up the slope above the sidewalk. The weeds were shriveled up, not cut. He had clearly sprayed them and I was pretty sure a good stretch of my grass wouldn’t survive.
“I know now that what I really needed was a professional who LISTENS to me. Is that so hard?”
