New Year’s Resolutions Don’t Work. This Will.

Sorry to break it to you, but you are not going to keep your New Year’s resolutions.

Research tells us that about 50 percent of the U.S. population make resolutions every year to lose weight, stop smoking, exercise regularly, and so on.

How long do they last? About two weeks. By February they’re backsliding. 60 percent fail by June, and even fewer make it to December.

Why Are We So Bad at This?

The problem is that we’re not really ready to make a big change in our lives come January 1st. Even though we all want to believe there’s something magical about the new year, habit-breaking is a process, not a single event.

We also tend not to believe as strongly as we think we do that we’re going to follow through. Researchers refer to this as a lack of self-efficacy. What we say and what we really think aren’t always the same thing.

So we start, but we don’t keep going.

What Does This Have to Do With Lawn Care and Snow Removal?

Your resolution probably doesn’t seem like it has anything to do with property maintenance. Research doesn’t show that lots of people are saying, “I’m going to keep my lawn looking great this year!” Because really, nobody’s thinking about their lawn this time of year.

Ah, but what people ARE thinking about is how they’re going to spend their time in 2018.

TripSavvy gathered data from several polls and determined the number one new year’s resolution this year is “Spend more time with family & friends.” Closely related, number five is “Enjoy life more.”

Great resolutions. Can’t argue with those.

But, um … how are you going to do that?

This Is How to Spend More Time with Family & Friends in 2018

Your New Year’s resolutions usually don’t work because:

  1. You’re not specific about your goals.
  2. You don’t break your goals up into manageable steps.
  3. Nobody is holding you accountable.
  4. You’re not really mindful about the effect your new behavior is having on your life, so you don’t keep it up.

What does work? You guessed it. The opposite.

We’re not suggesting that Clean Cut is the only way to achieve your goal of spending more time with loved ones this year, but here are four facts about signing up for a service agreement that make it a pretty good one:

  1. It’s a specific goal.
  2. It’s one small, manageable step in the right direction.
  3. A lawn care agreement holds you accountable to make the most of it.
  4. If you are paying attention, you’ll be mindful of the difference it makes in your life and stick with it.

This year, get serious about your number one New Year’s resolution and request information about lawn care plans today.

Because resolutions don’t usually work, but this will.
